Last month we shared the story behind the Y and the R. This month, we are going to share a little more about the R, so here is Mike’s yoga journey.
Before YogaRevolution came to life, Mike lived what many would call a busy, stressful life. He was constantly moving, working, and pushing through without ever pausing to truly listen to his body. That pace eventually caught up. After undergoing neck surgery to fuse his C4 and C5 vertebrae, his doctor told him, "No more kettlebells." Vanessa suggested yoga, which Mike was slightly skeptical about, but she knew exactly how to hook him. She took him to a Hot Power Flow class and then Hot26. He was hooked.
During the pandemic, Mike started to notice chest pains, which eventually led to open-heart surgery for a congenital defect. Doctors informed Mike that he was literally lucky to be alive, because his defect is the type that causes young athletes to drop on the field of a heart attack. This changed everything. For someone who had always found purpose through movement: sports, fitness, and hiking, this was a defining moment.
When his doctor told him the one thing he could safely continue before surgery was yoga, Mike continued to step onto the mat. What originally began as a physical practice became something much deeper, a journey of healing, presence, and rediscovery. Yoga guided him not only in rebuilding strength, but also in softening into stillness, finding clarity, and reconnecting to what truly matters.
Today, yoga isn’t something Mike does. It’s a way of living. His practice reflects the heart of YogaRevolution: transformation through challenge, balance through breath, and growth through self-awareness.
“Today, yoga isn’t something Mike does. It’s a way of living.”
This is why YogaRevolution exists. This is where change begins. This is where transformation thrives.
With Love,
Vanessa and Mike
